College Magazine critique

This magazine is successful as it appears rather sophisticated yet down to earth, which will appeal to most young students. With a target audience of teenagers aged 16 and above, the model chosen seems fitting for the magazine's style. She is young, attractive and has a slight sense of maturity. Pair this with the fairly neutral colours and the the magazine almost seems....tasteful; though the main coverlines ultimately suggest otherwise.

At the other end of the spectrum, this magazine seems much more intellectually approprate for those in education. The bright, bold colours are jovial and bring a smile to the reader's face; though they are far too embaressed to show it as this cover is somewhat 'geeky'. With the same targeted age range, the magazine lacks a sense of maturity, mainly due to the young blonde model, not only being weighed down by the array of colourful books, but the ridiculous 'Elton John' spectacles that we all know have no optical value.

This contents page looks rather unprofessional at first glance.
The varying font sizes, the badly taken photographs and the
somewhat lack-lustre colour scheme. It is most likely aimed
at young adults due to the font styles and inexperienced layout.

This page looks very different to the previous one. The structured layout adds sophistication while the plain colours look mature to the reader. It is most likely aimed at older students. However, this minimalistic design could be seen as boring and will therefore repel younger readers.
